This photo essay explicates the experiences of LGBTQ Ugandans living under anti-LGBTQ state legislation, namely the proposed 2009 Anti-Homosexuality Act, that gave permission for anti-LGBTQ societal behaviour. Jake Naughton, the photographer and writer of the essay, is a London-based visual journalist whose work focuses on LGBTQ communities in extremis around the world.
